Holiday Stovetop Potpourri

Make your house smell like the holidays!

The holidays are a great time of year and one of my favorite things to do is find ways to make my house smell like Christmas. I love filling my home with comforting smells during the holiday and there is no better combination than citrus and cranberry mixed with cinnamon and cloves. This combination of ingredients make an incredible aroma simmering on the stove and it just gets you excited for the holidays. It’s warm, sweet, spicy, and creates a scent that is inviting and soothing.

In addition to making this for yourself, it also makes a perfect holiday gift. It’s inexpensive, super simple to throw together, and it is always a crowd pleaser.

How to Make this Holiday Stovetop Potpourri

First slice an orange and add to 3 cups of water in a pot or slow cooker. Next add your cranberries, cinnamon sticks, and spices in the pot. Let it simmer on low and enjoy the smelly goodness. Keep an eye on the water now and again and add more if it gets too low. Another benefit to this goodness is you can use it for a few days. Just cover the pot with a lid and reheat the next day.

Tip: another thing I love to do is add some pine needles to the pot. It gives it a little extra holiday zest! I’m surrounded by pine trees in the hills of Colorado so that’s an easy task for me.

How to Gift this Holiday Stovetop Potpourri

It’s all about the layers. I use a wide-mouthed quart sized mason jar and place the orange at the bottom. I usually have a hard time finding oranges that are small enough to fit it so in that case, I will use 3 clementine oranges. Another option is to slice the orange for your friend and place in a Ziploc back, still placing at the bottom of the jar.

Next add your cranberries. Just toss them in over the orange.

You’ll want to place the spices in a small bag or sandwich baggie, placing the spices in a corner, tying with twine, and cutting the extra baggie off.

Finally add the cinnamon sticks on top and seal the jar with bow or fabric to give it a holiday vibe baby!

That’s it. Easy, delightful and lovely. All the best words I can use to describe the holidays. I hope you try it this holiday season!
