Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats
As you all know by now, I love my dogs. They are my babies and they certainly get spoiled like crazy. One of my favorite ways to pamper them is by making homemade dog treats.
Store bought dog treats are just too easy, and typically contain so many unnecessary ingredients. I decided a long time ago that if I’m being careful of what I put into my body, I need to do the same with my fury friends. Over the years I’ve made a ton of different dog treat recipes but this one has become my favorite and was given to me by a friend (thanks Shannon!). It’s really easy to make, contains few ingredients, and you get a ton of cookies out of it.
My dog Porter will literally stand by the oven waiting for them to come out and when they do, he becomes very impatient waiting for them to cool.
For my dog’s birthday’s I’ll make these treats, cut out dog bone shapes, and make a cookie sandwich with banana mash in between. They go nuts. But even better, these dog treats make the perfect gift for your friends with their own fury friends.
So how do you make these Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Treats?
Start by combining the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt, and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl. You may need to use your hands as this is a thick and dry mixture.
Add water as needed to make the dough easier to work with. Be sure to add a little at a time, like a teaspoon only until you get the desired texture. Keep in mind though, this dough is meant to be dry and firm so don’t go overboard.
Once everything has been combined, use your hands to form the dough into a ball and place on a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough out with a rolling pin. I will typically cut the dough in half and roll each half separately to make this process easier.
You’ll want to roll the dough out to about ½” thick. Then use your cookie cutter to cut the dough into your fancy shape. Or simply use a knife and cut out a basic square.
Place on a baking sheet and cook for 30-minutes or until the treats are hard. Times may vary depending on the size of the cookie so be sure to keep an eye on them.
Let these beauties cool and give one to your best friend. Store in an airtight container or your favorite doggie cookie jar.
I hope you try making your own. Your pets will love you for it.
Peace & Love,
Nikki
