4-Ingredient Anti-Aging Face Lotion

Finished Lotion.jpg

“I’m a better person when I’m moisturized.”

I realized today that I have been using face lotion in the morning and night for 27 years. I have always been that girl washing her face before going to bed. Every single night, even after the college bar nights. Crazy right, but I’m so thankful now for my face lotion addition because it is so good to have this regimen, especially as I (ahem) get older.

A few years ago, I became pretty obsessed with making my own lotions and this recipe is seriously one of the easiest things I make and quickly became my favorite daily product. It also has very few ingredients which has always been an important factor for anything I put on or in my body.

Anyone looking for a healthier alternative to store bought lotions is typically looking for something that helps with dry skin, has skin-beneficial oils, smells great and let’s be honest, costs a fraction of the expensive goodies at the store. Well, I’m here to help you make your own face lotion from the comfort of your kitchen.

But first, let’s talk about the benefits of the 4-ingredients in this recipe?

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil contains nourishing fatty acids that help hydrate, protect and soften your skin. Using coconut oil on your face can reduce inflammation, and increases collagen production, which helps skin maintain firmness. It’s also been noted that it can lighten dark patches. I swear, I’ve seen this improve on my face!

One thing to keep in mind with using coconut oil on your face overnight is that some people can find the oil to be too heavy and can clog pores and create acne breakouts. So it’s best to start with small portions to see how your face reacts.

Shea Butter

Shea butter is an amazing moisturizer for your skin and is used as a main ingredient in most skincare products. It has been proven to have anti-inflammatory properties, it creates an incredible smoothing and moisturizing effect, and it’s been noted to have anti-aging properties. Yes!

Shea butter is pretty low-risk and allergic reactions or acne are pretty rare.

Frankincense Oil

Frankincense has been around for ages and can be used for aromatherapy, perfume, incense, and skin care products. It’s even been knowing to help with stress and relieve pain. Although studies are somewhat lacking on the use of frankincense oil, many believe it to contain numerous properties that can help support healthy skin and hair.

Frankincense has an incredible woody smell, and can be great for oily skin and acne and will soothe and reduce inflammation. Even better, its wrinkle-reducing benefits stimulates cell regeneration. Hello perfect product.

As always, some people may experience irritation or an allergic reaction with this oil, so please try a patch test before using.

Lavender Oil

Aside from the lovely smell and calming effects of lavender, using it as an oil can benefit the skin in many ways. It’s full of antioxidants and can help with acne and reduce wrinkles. Combine this ingredient with the frankincense and you have a match made in heaven for keeping that youthful face.

As mentioned in all the above ingredients, lavender could cause allergic skin reactions in some people. Test this out first and if you have any irritations, stop using immediately.

How to Make This Anti-Aging Face Lotion

I’m not kidding when I say this easy. First using a double boiler, melt the shea butter and coconut oil together until completely liquid.

Remove from the heat and let cool for 30 minutes.

Add in your frankincense and lavender oils and stir. Then wait for the mixture to partially solidify. See photo below for what this looks like, but I’ve even placed this in the freezer for 5-10 minutes to quicken the process a bit.

Whip the mixture with a hand mixer until you get a buttery consistency. This may take a few minutes. Finally store in jars or tins for daily use.

This beautiful mixture will keep for 6 – 12 months.

An optional added ingredient can be Vitamin E oil. Every now and again I’ll add about 5-8 drops of oil into the mixture along with the other two oils. Vitamin E can help with hyperpigmentation and is high in antioxidants which helps prevent aging and wrinkles on your face.

There you have it, easy peasy. I hope you try and love it like I do.

Peace & Love,
Nikki
