Earth Day Thought Starters

The Earth is all we have in common.

Tomorrow is Earth Day folks, one of my favorite days of the year. It’s a reminder to acknowledge the beautiful home we all share, and it’s a reminder to put environmental concerns first.

The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970 and marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement. It “gives a voice to an emerging public consciousness about the state of our planet.” I love this awareness and for me, this year it places a ray of light on something important during year-long time of darkness.

Our earth provides us with gifts everywhere. Everything we need to survive; food, water, medicine, and material for shelter. You just have to look and recognize. It’s easy to ignore in our everyday busy lives, with all the technology and distractions, but if you take a tiny step back and see the beauty you’ll find we have everything we need.

So let’s take care of our home and all do one thing to better our planet and recognize this beautiful day. As they say, there’s no planet B. Here are a few ideas:

  • Plant something. You could make seed bombs, plant a tree, or grow your own flowers, herbs, and veggies.

  • Carpool, walk or ride a bike instead of driving your car to reduce your carbon footprint.

  • Use reusable bags instead of plastic bags that end up in a landfill, on the side of the road or stuck in the trees.

  • Pick up some trash on the side of the road and remember to NEVER litter.

  • Use your refillable water bottles instead of wasteful plastic bottles.

  • Recycle and upcycle as much as you can. Plastic, clothes, shoes, furniture, etc.

  • Spend time outside. Earth Day IS a reminder of how amazing our planet is.

  • Or you could use your voice and encourage your friends and family to do some of these things too.

This year I’m taking a stab at making my own seed bombs then driving around to hand off to mother earth. I also plan to spend time outside, enjoying the beauty gifted to us all.

In 2019, thousands of monarch butterflies migrated from Colorado to Mexico. Check out the view in my backyard (dogs included).
